Gravity’s embrace

Crushed between the weight of the world

and the weight of my own expectations,

I hang, suspended in space

locked in free fall

an insect plunging towards the sky.

Kicking away the fetters of flight

I beat my wings

gossamer threads catching the light,

starlight blinds me

and gravity wraps her arms around me once more

collapsing my body into atoms with her careless embrace.
