White Horse

Uffington horse

You gallop in silence, your

Hoof beats are muffled by verges of green.

Uffington horse

Etched deep on the hillside,

your flanks in the sunlight glow bone white and gleam.

A poem inspired by the mighty chalk drawings to be seen on the hillsides around Britain. I tried to mimic the sound of the horse’s hoofbeats in the rhythm and metre of the poem.
